For more than 30 years, chromosomes from fetal cells cultured in vitro have been used to diagnose prenatal genetic abnormalities. Both the methods and the nutrient media used for the culture of these cells have evolved significantly over this period. A significant advance was reported by Chang in 1982*, which subsequently led to the development of Chang MediumŪ, specifically designed for the culture of amniotic fluid cells (AFC). Since the introduction of Chang Medium, Irvine Scientific have developed additional formulas to address the requirements of the modern cytogenetic laboratory. Chang Medium BMC and MF (Mitogen Free) are a range of ready-to-use media formulations optimized using pre-screened reagents to provide ideal growth conditions for the culture of human bone marrow and peripheral blood cultures, ensuring a rapid harvest time and high levels of mitotic cells.
